Lionel (Leo) HETU Obituary

We sadly announce the passing of our dad, Lionel (Leo) Hetu on August 26th, 2022 peacefully with his beloved family by his side.

Leo was married 70 years to his beloved wife, June.  He also leaves children, Fred (Cathy) Hetu, Patrick (Valerie) Hetu, Maureen (Ron) Wilton; grandchildren, Steven, Jolene, Tim, Christopher, Aaron, Jared, Jennifer, Matthew, Rebecca, Michelle, Shawn, Brett; great grandchildren, Brendan, Montana, Ayden, Mitchell, Madison, Noah, Joseph, Mason, Paisley, Cooper, Dominic, Laerke, and Ezra. He was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda.

Leo moved to Port Alberni in  1950, and  married  the love of his life, June in 1952.  He spent his entire working career at APD Sawmill as a Sawyer.  He loved to fill his nonworking hours fishing and kept himself busy by establishing Leo’s Flies & Tackle.  He sold to numerous stores all over BC and was extremely popular to anyone that fished and used his lures or flies.

He had a happy life raising their four children, fishing, spending time with the family who were very dear to his heart. Leo had many friends and great neighbors whom he cherished and appreciated so much.  His sense of humour was second to none and he loved to laugh and was always seeing the bright & sunny side of life to all who knew him.

He leaves behind many of us who are stronger because of ‘ the talks’ he gave to all of us whether we needed it or not!   We are better people because of his outspoken, kind, protectiveness & fatherly love.

He will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Leo's memory at 2:00 pm on September 24th at the Cherry Creek Hall, 3720 Moore Road  in Port Alberni.
