Merilyn Pearson Obituary

Merilyn Anne Pearson
October 22,1931 – November 20, 2022

Merilyn Pearson passed away peacefully with her four daughters at her side.

Merilyn was born and grew up in Vancouver BC. After graduating from Lord Byng High School, Merilyn completed her teachers training and moved to Port Alberni. She had already met the love of her life Harry Pearson and they were married on July 5th, 1952.

Family life was busy with four daughters, Carol McGillivray, Janet Pearson, Kathy Budzyn, and Barbara Wall. Merilyn still found time to play bridge, teach swimming lessons, volunteer with Woodwards Teen and 20, and organize many community fundraising events.

As her children left the nest, Merilyn became more involved in volunteer work. She began volunteering with the West Coast General Hospital Auxiliary, which eventually led her to become the President of the National Organization.  She travelled the country promoting volunteer work and empowering women to participate in their communities.

Merilyn and Harry planned for their retirement by purchasing property and building their home in Nanoose Bay BC. They enjoyed their life there from 1981 onwards. Retired life brought many adventures, great friendships, 9 grandchildren (Breanne, Elise, Darcy, Matthew, Joeann, Nicole, Laura, Matraca, and Emma) and 8 great grandchildren.  Staying active was Merilyn’s passion.

To celebrate Merilyn’s life, please go for a walk, indulge in food foraged from nature, enjoy a glass of wine, play a game, or read a book.

A celebration of Mum’s life will be held in the Spring.
