Peter Mehlmann (1938 - 2021) passed away peacefully at the age of 82, on Vancouver Island. Peter immigrated to Regina Saskatchewan from Berlin Germany at the young age of 18, where he made his start as a bricklayer in the building of churches and schools. He retired in 2003 after 35 years of service at the University of Regina Library. He and Gloria, beloved wife of 62 years, moved to be closer to family in North Vancouver. He spent five happy years in his final home in Nanoose Bay.
Loving father of Gabrielle Ollinger (Dan), Vancouver Island, and Jacqueline Mehlmann-Wicks, England. Proud grandfather of Danielle (Mauricio), Vancouver BC, Christopher (Courtney), Vancouver Island, and Hartley, England. Great-grandfather of Aceyn, James, and Amea. Great admirer of in-laws and friends, Bruce Wicks (Hertfordshire) and Mark Ridley, (Cambridgeshire) and their families.
In support of his Alma Mater, Peter ensured that he and Gloria and their daughters attain their degrees at the University of Regina. In their post-retirement years Peter supported and encouraged Gloria’s writing.
Peter is survived by his wife Gloria; sister, Barbara (Germany), nephew, Axel (Germany) and by many nieces and nephews whom he admired; notably Marlon Bessel family and his sisters, Tanya, Melanie and Lana, along with friends and relatives in Regina Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, Washington State, Europe, and British Columbia.
Peter will be fondly remembered as a loving father, husband and family man, avid reader of the literary classics and bibliographer, eclectic music lover (Handel and The Beatles), crafter of extraordinary words, architect of magnificent meals, pilot of small aircraft, and quick-witted philosopher.
