Peter PETERSEN Obituary

Peter was born in Prince Rupert, BC to parents Peter John Petersen and Phyllis Isabel Petersen (née Solmonson). He had one sibling, Diane Lillian Grant. When Peter was four years old, the family moved to Uranium City, Saskatchewan where he started his schooling but, after a move back to Prince Rupert, he attended grades two through to graduation in his hometown. Upon completion of grade twelve, Peter attended Mount Royal College on a basketball scholarship. It was there, in Calgary, that he met his sweetheart, Lorraine Jean Halyk, and they married in 1976. Son, Scott Peter William Petersen, was born in 1985.

After college, Peter made the decision to follow in his father and grandfather’s footsteps by becoming a highliner fisherman. Over his years in the industry, he fished on the Pacific Quest and the Ocean Cloud. He had a deep love for the outdoors and fishing certainly provided Peter the backdrop for discovering BC’s beautiful coastline. Through his passion of playing basketball, where he learned the value of working as a team member, Peter quickly earned his position on the boat and was appreciated for his hard work, quick wit and valued friendship. After returning to BC from Calgary, he lived in Vancouver for twenty years before moving to Parksville in 1992. Peter was always passionate about sports; basketball (Rainmakers), baseball and curling in his younger years, golf, racquetball, tennis and running when he moved south. One thing for sure is that the Boston Bruins have lost a major fan; not to say he is not cheering from the stars.

Peter passed at Victoria’s Royal Jubilee after a valiant two-week fight, while being attended by an incredibly brilliant team of medical professionals. He will be forever missed by Lorraine, Scott and Diane. He was predeceased by his father in 2004 and his mother in 2017. To add to this, he is being mourned by many close friends and extended family. The common message being relayed by friends is that ‘he was one of the good guys.’
