Robert is Predeceased by his partner Dorothy Nichols, Spouse Beverly Fairbanks nee Wesche, his brothers Brother Allen David McKay, died in Ponoka, AB and Gerald Douglas McKay, Eden Brook Cemetery Calgary his Parents: Henry David McKay, Died 1954 Buried at Kimberley Cemetery and Florence Beatrice Fairbanks (nee Elkerton) Died 2005 at Eden Brook Cemetery, Calgary.
He is survived by his Ex Wife Happy Miller,nee Oike Lillooet, B.C., his Son Kyle (Rochelle) Fairbanks Parksville B. C., Son Thomas (Dianna)Fairbanks Lillooet, B.C. Step daughters: Stacy (Sheldon) Binnie, Sorento, BC, Teresa Lyon,Calgary Alberta Grandchildren: Drew, Cole, Austin Step grandchildren: Micah, Jesse, Ryder Siblings: Brother Brian Kenneth Fairbanks (nee McKay), and wife Elizabeth Rose Fairbanks Parker, West Kelowna, B.C.Sister Debra Jean Bergman (nee Fairbanks) Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, his Uncle: Kenneth and June Elkerton, Kelowna, BC. and numerous, Cousins (dozens)
Robert loved creating things using his hands and his tools. He had a passion for Cabinet and Furniture making, model railroad dioramas and assembling model car kits. He made a career in construction as a framing carpenter, supervisor, cabinetmaker where his attention to detail and precision measurements were his hallmarks. He played rhythm guitar in a rock band in his teens, and continued his love for music over his lifetime. Rob graduated from High School in Lillooet B.C. living in “ The Bakery House” and worked in the family Bakery Operation. After Graduation Rob rescued survivors from a plane crash at an early age, he declared he would never fly, and he never did.Rob moved to Nanaimo on Vancouver island in the early 90s. He later on bought a house there and enjoyed fixing it up after retirement. Rob passed away peacefully at home where he was most happy . He is remembered as a very private, stubborn and helpful person by his family.
