Robert Eric WHITTINGHAM

After valiantly trying to fight just one infection too many, Bob slipped away peacefully on June 11, 2019 with family by his side.  Left heartbroken are his wife and best friend, Marilyn, daughter Hali (Jeff) Penner, grandchildren Nigel Queen, Kristen Queen, Maria Penner and Jeff Penner.  He will also be greatly missed by his brothers Donald and Stanley (Maureen) Whittingham, in-laws Charlotte Scott, Lesley Armstrong, Val Edwards (Phil DeGeller) and Bob Scott (Diana Wearne), as well as numerous nephews and their families.  Bob had a great sense of humour, and the twinkle in his eyes and his mischievous grin will never be forgotten.  

Bob was born and raised in Vancouver and drove a school bus in Mission for many years before retiring to Qualicum Beach.  He was quite philosophical and positive, and most things just rolled off his back.  Bob was well read and loved a good debate, happily arguing on just about any subject - he wasn’t always right but he always had an opinion.  He was a good man to all who knew him and his bear hugs were legendary.  The last few years were not kind to Bob and he spent many hours quietly reading or going on short walks in the neighbourhood with his four-legged companion.  He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with everyone he met.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Forrest and Dr. Johannes Wagenaar for their dedication throughout the years and the doctors and staff at Nanaimo Regional Hospital for treating Bob with dignity and respect over the past three months.

There will be no service at Bob’s request.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his memory to the BC Lung Association, the Nanaimo Regional Hospital or a charity of your choice.
