June 4, 1949 - January 16, 2018

It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Doug Schmitz.

Born and raised in Port Alberni, Doug was proud of Port Alberni and often called Vancouver Island, God’s country.

Summertime was his favorite season.

Many people around Port Alberni will remember him driving around his “green machine” – 1932 Ford truck around town.  He enjoyed being a participant in the Canada Day parade and at local and Island car shows.

Aside from his love of classic cars he will be remembered for his hearty laugh and his love of family and friends.

His survived by wife Patricia; proud father of his son Kevin (Emily) Schmitz; Stepchildren - John, Luke, George (Evelyn) and Elizabeth.  Grandpa to Alex and Taylor.  Nieces – Lisa (Jamie) Manson, Tina (Cam) Lampard.  Nephew – Troy ( Allison) Schmitz.  Aunt Gertie Schmitz and Aunt Carol Schmitz as well as many cousins.

Into forever summer and car shows he has gone.  His memory remains in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Hansen Hall, 3940 Johnston Road, Port Alberni from 1:00 - 5:00 PM
