So sorry to hear of Alex's passing. I knew him from volunteering and coffee visits. It was clear that he cherished his family and was so proud of his farm boy heritage and the education and career he had worked so hard to achieve. No doubt he left a lasting impression on everyone he met and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Heartfelt sympathy to Lorna and all the family.

Although Mary and I were aware of Alex's sudden illness, we were, nonetheless, so saddened by the news today of his passing.
Alex hired me as a University of Waterloo engineering graduate in 1973, and I started working at the Dillon Cambridge office within 48 hours of my interview, and first meeting, with Alex. My thoughts, at the time, were "what an impressive man I just met". Little did I know, however, that this amazing man, and engineer, would become my "only mentor and support person" during my many years at Dillon. He taught me so much about being a good consulting engineer, and his guiding principles have stuck with me throughout my 44 years as a consultant. I still think "what would Alex do?", whenever I am confronted by a problem at work; I am truly not sure where I would have ended up if it were not for Alex.
Over the years, Alex also became a great friend of Mary, and was there many times for our growing family in Kitchener. We will remember, with fondness, the many social gatherings with Alex's family during those early years.
We will eternally miss Alex, and offer our sincere and humble condolences to Lorna and family.
Love. Garry and Mary

I am so sorry to hear of the great loss of Alex Kobelak to a very large family connection. Alex truly made the effort to keep in touch with all. In fact, on he and Lorna's September itinerary was a stop at our home to catch up with Lorna's cousins.
One of Alex's legacies will be his tireless work chronicling family histories. We will be forever grateful for the assistance he gave Lorna in assembling the Broad Clan History and Letterbooks.
Sincerely,
Noella Leydon

I was shocked and very saddened to learn of Alex death last week. For decades, we were partners together at Dillon. Our paths did not always cross as Alex lead a great international program for Dillon while I worked domestically. But at Partners meetings, annual meetings and periodic work discussions, I always valued the advice and guidance from Alex. On our move to Vancouver Island 11+ years ago Alex and Lorna, then veterans of "Island" living, had a great welcome for us and sounds tips and advice. Over this last decade we periodically had a lunch together as recently as early summer. I was looking forward to a fall lunch. Alex had great stories to tell both from his upbringing in Saskatchewan and his international travels. I will miss all of those. Rest in peace my friend. WALLY

Dear Family Members of Alex Kobelak,
I was saddened today to hear of the passing of Alex. In1989. I first met Alex when I was completing a project in Jakarta, Indonesia and applied to Dillon for a Deputy Director position to work with Alex on International Projects. He personally visited Jakarta to interview and subsequently hire me. I joined Dillon in Sept, 1989 to work for Alex which was a fulfilling experience. He retired less than a year later but I will never forget that he gave me the opportunity to work for Dillon. He was well respected in his profession and was admired by his colleagues.

I extend my deepest condolences to all of Alex's family members.

Sincerely
Charles Kretch ("Charlie")
